A large dominant roof running parallel with the existing ridge line

Situated in the Lake District National Park, near Kendal, this extension to an existing Service Station needed to be sensitive to it’s location and be given careful consideration it’s immediate location.

The proposal for a large commercial space for a well know bicycle retailer, combined with a cafe of local repute, evolved over a number of years.

The existing service station building has a particularly ‘Swiss Cottage’ feel, with a large roof and overhanging eaves. We took this reference to create a similar, if more, contemporary structure with it’s own large dominant roof running parallel with the existing ridge line. The space created between the existing and the extension between providing a separate entrance shared between the two spaces.

Both the cafe and cycle store have proved to be highly popular.
